Campos Enjoys Return Trip To Missouri

2013 Iowa OT Jake Campos attended Missouri's junior day back in February and picked up a Tiger offer. The talented lineman returned to Columbia to check out Missouri's football practice, and shares his most recent thoughts.

On Saturday, 2013 OT prospect Jake Campos   6'7"  245  West Des Moines (IA) Valley and his father were in Columbia for the athletic lineman's second unofficial visit to Missouri.  After he returned home, Campos spoke with about his visit and he updated us on his recruitment.

"I really, really enjoyed Missouri,"   said Campos.   "Everything was great!  Seeing the coaches actually coaching was really nice.  Everybody was working together.    It was very together overall.  I really liked that aspect."

Campos spent quite a bit of time with offensive linemen Mark Hill and Connor McGovern.  He said that he got to hang out with some of the players after practice.

"I got more of a feel for how everyone interacts with each other, which was pretty useful,"  explained Campos, who went on to say that he feels that he hit it off well with both coaches and players.  "I feel really comfortable with everyone."

Campos has a very lean physical build, more like that of a basketball player.   I'd say that he's every bit of his listed height.  He said that the Missouri coaches told him that they see him as being able to carry over 300 pounds in college without sacrificing any of his speed and athleticism.

He's working in the weight room four times a week, in addition to doing other agility work.  He reports a maximum in the hang-clean of 265 pounds.  He's working on his form in the weight room, and is just now starting to add weight to his workouts.   Campos reports a 4.98 forty, a 25" vertical jump, and a pro-agility of 4.41 seconds.

Campos reports offers from Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, and Purdue, in addition to Missouri.  Notre Dame, Oklahoma, and Oregon are among other schools that are recruiting Campos.  He said that the schools that are recruiting him the hardest are Iowa, Iowa State, Missouri, and Notre Dame.

Campos talked about the status of his recruitment.

"Right now, I'm trying to keep everything pretty open,"  said Campos.  "I want to get out and see as many campuses as I can.  I want to have a decision by around the beginning of next season……………………………….. At least, that's kind of what I'm hoping for."

Campos is planning to visit Oklahoma (3-17-12) and Notre Dame (3-31-12) this spring, and he would also like to take visits to the two Kansas schools.  And, he said that he would also like to visit Oregon sometime.

"I'm hoping to get down to visit Missouri again, probably this summer,"   explained Campos.  "Missouri is (a school that is) definitely up there."

"I really like the Missouri offense, because my strong suit is pass protection,"   continued Campos.   "The (Missouri) offense really fits me well, because I have the ability to move and get in front of people."

On Saturday, Campos seemed to really be enjoying watching the offensive and defensive linemen in their 1-on-1 pass-rush drills.

"It was fun to watch!  That's what I live for right there,"    said Campos.   "I love the 1-on-1 pass rush drill!   It's really hard, but it's fun." will continue to follow this fine young man's recruitment.
