Texas DT Lists Missouri Among Top Schools

Straight off some success deep in the heart of Texas with a recent defensive line commitment to Missouri, the Tigers hope to continue in their quest for quality defensive line help, with the recruitment of a top DT prospect in the Lone Star State.

The Missouri Tigers received some good news regarding one Houston defensive line prospect they are recruiting yesterday with the commitment of  DE Marcus Loud from Wheatley High school. The Tigers it appears would like to add a defensive tackle from the same city to their 2013 recruiting class.

ShowMeMizzou.com spoke with Houston (TX) Westfield DT Hardreck Walker 6'2" 280 5.0 forty about his Missouri offer recently, and got his thoughts on the Tigers, and where his recruitment was heading at this point.

"I was just trying to call Coach Kul before you called," said Walker when we spoke. "I keep in contact with Coach Kul and try to talk with him probably once a week. Missouri offered me a couple of months ago. It's great that they are jumping to the SEC. It will be great as far as exposure goes. I know they also need a few good defensive linemen to help them out."

Walker said that he was familiar with Missouri from seeing them from time to time since they played the Texas schools while in the Big 12.

He also said that Missouri was a school he would like to try and make an unofficial visit to this summer among his offers which include Texas A&M, Northwestern,West Virginia, Auburn, Arkansas,Texas Tech, Illinois,Baylor, Indiana and Minnesota among the many he has.

"I would like to take visits to a lot of schools. I will probably try and make it up to Missouri if I make it to Arkansas for an unofficial visit",he said.

While he told me he isn't close to making a decision, he did have a timeframe for when he would like to have a decision by, and he named a list of 8 schools that were standing out to him at this time.

"I would say in no particular order that Michigan, Northwestern,Arkansas, Auburn,Texas A&M, Texas Tech and Missouri are probably my list of 7-8 schools that are up there for me at the moment,' said Walker. " And I would like to have a decision made sometime before the start of the season, so I hope to take as many unofficial visits as I can."

Hardreck plans of studying to become a civil engineer in college. He has a short list of things that he will be looking for in the right school for him.

"Mostly the players and the coaches. I want that family type atmosphere where it's like a family. Also the coaches will be important. Making sure that they are steady and will be there for my entire time that I am there. I don't want to be someplace and have the coaches change in two year and me having to start over with new coaches."

Walker described his talents as being strong against the run and being able to get off his blocks well. He said he has a nose for the ball and good endurance playing inside. Hardreck also said that most schools are recruiting his as a 3-technique DT.

ShowMeMizzou.com will continue to follow-up on Hadreck Walker's recruitment.
