The Missouri Tigers wrap up their team camp tomorrow, but today was a big day for them as they extended a couple of 2014 offers to campers who were there.
ShowMeMizzou.com reported on 2014 DT Peyton Newell receiving an offer earlier this evening. A second offer was extended tonight as well.
2014 St. Louis (MO) Vianney running back Markel Smith 5'11" 210 4.5 forty- 33" vertical jump- informed me that he has received an offer from the Tigers tonight.
"They offered me," said Smith. "I was surprised. I camped at the one day in St. Louis and the coaches said they were impressed with what they saw. I like Mizzou a lot. It's a good school and it is among my top 3 schools. My other top schools are Wisconsin and Nebraska, but Missouri will be in it to the end because they are my home state school and I have liked them for a long time."
The talented runner rushed for 1,498 yards and 18 TDs as a sophomore this past season. He ran for over 900 yards as a freshman.
I asked him if it was too early to think about committing to a school right now?
Smith told me following the St. Louis camp that he would be camping at K-State,Illinois and some others and possibly making some more unofficial visits this summer.
Smith is a powerfully built back who runs with power and speed. He also has the ability to juke players and make them miss, using his quickness and footwork. He is physical, a good blocker and can catch the ball out of the backfield.
He has played in the spread for Vianney the the previous two year, but told me that his team will play in the I-formation this year.
Here are highlights from Markel Smith's sophomore year.
