Among the hundreds of campers on campus for the first of Missouri's two team camps was 2013 TE Eric Cotton 6'5" 235 4.65 Nampa (ID) Columbia, who took time afterwards to speak with ShowMeMizzou.com. He talked about camping at Missouri, and he updated us on his recruitment.
"I thought that the competition at camp was really good," said Cotton, talking about his Missouri Team Camp experience. "The competition was better than usual. I also liked the way that the coaches coached, and the camp was very well organized. The team that I was on had a bunch of really athletic kids, which was fun."
I thought that Cotton really looked good during the camp. He's used to playing in a system similar to Missouri's, and he demonstrated good route running ability, as well as good ability to adjust to and catch the ball in the air. He has soft hands, and is pretty effective after the catch. He already has nice size and athleticism, but like almost every incoming player, he'll need to get bigger, stronger, and faster. He'll also need to learn to use his body better to shield defenders away from the football, and he'll have to improve in regards to attacking the football. He seems like a natural pass-catcher, and he showed good flexibility which allowed him to corral some of the many off-target passes that he saw during the camp.
"During the camp, I went on a tour," said Cotton, who explained that he was impressed with the quality of the athletic facilities and the academic facilities at Missouri. "I got to meet with the majority of the coaches. Coach Andy Hill is the guy that I would be working with if I decide to go to Missouri. He's a great guy! I love his personality, and I love his coaching style! And Coach Yost, the Offensive Coordinator, I love his personality and his demeanor, how he coaches football. He was the coach for the Renegade team that I was on, so that was really cool to actually be able to play under the offensive coordinator, so that was a lot of fun!"
Cotton indicated that he likes the way that Missouri utilizes their tight ends. He shared his thoughts about Missouri as a possible destination.
"Missouri being an SEC school, and me visiting, and the coaching staff, and loving the atmosphere, loving the facilities, is definitely way up there," explained Cotton. "They're definitely going to be way up there."
Cotton explained that the Missouri staff indicated to him that the Tigers plan to take one tight end, and that he's the one they want.
"It's great to hear, of course, it being Missouri, of course," said Cotton. "And, it being an SEC school. It's really cool to be wanted by such a big team!"
We'll have more on Eric Cotton later.
