ShowMeMizzou.com spoke with 2012 QB Eric Laurent 6'3" 200 St. Louis (MO) Parkway South, who will join the Missouri Tigers as a preferred walk-on QB in time for the first day of fall camp. It was in June that Laurent received word from the Missouri staff that he has received preferred status. Laurent is scheduled to report to Mizzou on August 1.
"For me, this is just a blessing," explained Laurent, speaking about the opportunity to play QB at Missouri. "I'm so happy and thankful that I'm getting the opportunity to be on the team."
As a senior at Parkway South, Laurent combined for more than 2000 yards of total offense. Over the past three seasons, Laurent threw for more than 3600 yards, in addition to rushing for more than 1500 yards.
Laurent is athletic enough to have received consideration to play on either side of the ball in college. He runs well, and throws the ball pretty well, in addition to possessing good size for the QB position. He said that he's been working out on his own in preparation for the beginning of fall camp.
I asked Laurent what are his goals as he begins his Missouri career? He was reluctant to verbalize his goals, but he willingly expressed his intent.
"I just want to come in there, work my butt off, and just see where it takes me," said Laurent. "I know that hard work can get you a long way. That's pretty much my thing. I'm just going to work as hard as I possibly can, and see what happens."
