ShowMeMizzou.com spoke with 2013 DT prospect Jay Woods 6'3" 282 Jackson (GA) to get the latest on his recruitment. The highly regarded defensive tackle recently narrowed his list of schools to include Clemson, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Missouri, and Vanderbilt.
When I spoke to Woods about six weeks ago, he was planning to narrow things down by the end of the summer, and to take his official visits this fall before making a decision at the end of the year. Now, Woods feels that he may be ready to go ahead and make his decision this month.
"Right now in the recruiting process, I've talked to my coaches and everything," explained Woods. "I feel like I'm getting close to a decision. I don't have an exact date yet, but I just feel like it's time to make a decision………………………………… I feel like it's going to be sometime in August."
"Missouri is still high on my list," said Woods. "You know, me and Coach Kul, we have a good relationship. You know, I visited Missouri for their Spring Game, and I liked the whole campus and everything. Missouri is still high on my list."
"Missouri is telling me that I'm one of their priority guys," said Woods. "You know, they were the first one to offer me. They were the first one who saw the talent in me. Out of all of my thirty-one offers, they were the first one. That's weighing as a big factor, and something to think about. And, Coach Kul tells me that I've been one of their priority guys from the get go. And, he's telling me that I can come in and work my tail off, and that I can compete for playing time as a true freshman."
"Right now, I'm looking at the pros and cons of each school," explained Woods. "And looking at where I can see myself. I'm looking at everything, the depth chart, and who's committed, and everything. I'm taking my time with it."
Woods has visited each of his remaining schools. I asked Woods if he would go ahead and take his official visits?
"It's like I told someone," explained Woods. "If I commit to a place, I'm committed."
Woods went on to say that he doesn't really want to prolong his recruitment into September, and he feels that he knows enough about each of the schools on his narrowed list to make a quality decision. It appears to me that he's being very thorough in evaluating each school, and that he's systematically comparing each opportunity.
