Missouri appears to have completed the early signing period portion of their 2013 class after having received a verbal commitment from PF prospect Torren Jones 6'8" 225 LaPorte (IN) La Lumiere School.
ShowMeMizzou.com spoke with Jones shortly after he had given his verbal commitment to Coach Haith, and he talked shared some of his thoughts regarding his visit, his commitment, and his projected role at Mizzou.
"I was at the airport, and I was thinking about it," explained Jones, of his decision to become a Missouri Tiger. "So, I decided to call Coach Haith back and tell him that I wanted to commit."
"Coach Haith was excited," said Jones. "He was ready to get it done. He was pumped!"
I asked Jones what went into his decision?
"It was the Missouri coaching staff, and Coach Haith," replied Jones, who expects to matriculate to Missouri in June. "I think they'll develop me really well. I really got along well with the players on the team. It was just a great atmosphere, and a great town. I could see myself here, and I just thought it was a great fit. I didn't want to pass up the opportunity."
Jones is expected to sign with Missouri in November.
"I'm just a hard-working kind of guy," said Jones, describing what kind of a player he is. "I can shoot out to fifteen feet. I can play with my back to the basket, or I can face up. I'm going to rebound and play hard. On defense, I can block shots. I pride myself on my defense. I'm active on defense, and get in their face."
Jones went on to say that he is working on a jump hook around the basket. He said that he has a 7'1" wing span, and a 35" standing vertical.
"I'm looking forward to playing under Coach Haith," said Torren Jones.
ShowMeMizzou.com will have more on Jones later.
