Jimmy McKinney Commits to Mizzou

The recruit that Quin Snyder's Tigers needed, for every conceivable reason, appears to have made a verbal commitment to the University of Missouri today. It appears that Jimmy McKinney, the top senior-to-be in the state of Missouri will be a Tiger in 2002.

As has been earlier reported, SuperMizzou has learned that MU may very well have received a verbal commitment from combo guard extraordinaire Jimmy McKinney of Vashon High School. Frank Cusumano of KSDK, the NBC affiliate in St. Louis broke the story this afternoon on the station's evening newscast. When we spoke with him shortly after his broadcast, Cusumano confirmed and stood by the report. McKinney, when reached by Dave Telep, Citadel's National Basketball Recruiting Director, would not comment at this point. However, McKinney did indicate that he will have a statement on Thursday (6/21). Other sources close to the Missouri basketball program indicated late today that McKinney has indeed given the commitment to Quin Snyder's Tigers. For the past two years, McKinney has been the lynch pin of coach Floyd Irons' back to back state championships at Vashon High School. McKinney (6-4, 180 lbs.) has primarily played at the off guard in high school, but it is believed that Snyder will give Jimmy the opportunity to play some point guard as well at Missouri.
