In Missouri's search for a defensive back to add to their 2013 recruiting class, Coach Alex Grinch stopped in recently to see 2013 junior college safety prospect Pat Martin 6'1" 205 Yuma (AZ) Arizona Western. A few days later, Martin took time to speak with ShowMeMizzou.com and he talked about his recruitment.
"Coach Grinch was here for about two hours last week," said Martin, who had been on pace to transfer at mid-year, but is now looking at spending another semester in junior college. "He said that they like my film, and that they might take a safety."
"One of the things about Coach Grinch that I like is that he's honest," said Martin, who had a different experience at Tennessee when he came out of high school. "I can tell that he's honest………………………………………. I want to earn what I get. I don't want anything promised to me."
Originally a four star safety out of Greeneville (SC) J.L. Mann, Martin was part of Tennessee's 2011 recruiting class, but he transferred from Tennessee before his freshman season got underway. He red-shirted that season at Arizona Western, and played strong safety for the Matadors in 2012. He comes out of junior college this spring with three years to play three beginning with the 2013 season.
Martin reports a 4.55 forty time, and a 33" vertical, to go along with a 4.22 shuttle, and he has done 12 reps at 225-pounds in the bench press.
"I'm trying to get faster," said Martin, who said that he may already be faster than when he was last timed.
He visited Oregon State in September. He's looking to set up a visit to Missouri this month.
"I'm definitely considering Missouri," said Martin. "They're probably my top choice right now."
