Oklahoma TE Making Mizzou Visit This Weekend

In their quest to add a second Tight End prospect to their 2013 football recruiting class, the Missouri Tigers will be bringing a sleeper prospect at the position from Oklahoma in for an official visit.ShowMeMizzou.com has the details.

The Missouri Tigers have made the TE position a target to help round out their 2013 football recruiting class. This weekend they will have two potential prospects on campus.

ShowMeMizzou.com spoke with Tuttle (OK) TE Dawson Bassett 6'4" 215 last night about his recruitment by the Tigers and upcoming official visit to Mizzou this weekend.

"I am taking my official visit there on Friday,"said Bassett. "I have talked to Missouri for a long time and I went to their one day camp in Kansas City this past June. Coach Henson is from Tuttle and played for the same coach as me. He knows I am a hard-nosed player like he was, and he seems to know what I am capable of doing. He also recruited my brother Cooper. So, I am happy for the opportunity to visit there and hopefully they like me and offer me."

I asked Dawson if he had an idea where the Tigers stood as far as their interest level and possibly offering him?

"Coach Henson really couldn't tell me exactly what the chances are, but I think it looks good that they will. It seems like things are in my favor for it to happen. I definitely want the opportunity to show what I can do and prove some of the local schools, especially OSU that they made a mistake in not offering me,"said Bassett.

Dawson is very familiar with Missouri.

"I have always been a Big 12 guy, and I know Mizzou moved to the SEC, but I saw a lot of Missouri games and went to them since my brother played for Oklahoma State the past four years. I also really liked watching Chase Coffman and viewed myself as a similar type of player. Plus, I like their move to the SEC."

Bassett had 32 catches for 780 yards and 13 TDs as a WR in 2012. He also played outside line Ackerman and had 106 tackles on defense while making All-State.

Besides Missouri, he is also hearing from Texas Tech,Kansas and Oklahoma State, who is looking at a preferred walk-on offer for him. He does have offers from schools such as Missouri State, Central Oklahoma,Emporia State and others.

Dawson talked about how Missouri was looking to possibly use him if they offer, and what his strengths and weaknesses are as a player.

"The Tigers are looking at me at Tight End and H-back. Someone who can play wide or line up tight or come out of the backfield and cause mismatches against linebackers. I think I am pretty gifted with my speed and athleticism and can go up and get the ball. I am shifty and consider myself a playmaker, but I am also physical and don't mind sticking my nose in there and blocking and getting dirty. Obviously, the biggest thing I need to do is to get bigger. My brother, Cooper Bassett, who just graduated from played at Oklahoma State is 260lbs, so I don't see it being a problem once I am in college,"he said.

With a 4.6 forty time and 35" vertical, Bassett also self reported lift maxes of 275lbs in the bench press, 415lbs in the squat, and 265lbs in the power clean.

Bassett stood out to be at Missouri's one day camp and I reported on him in the camp report from June.

It seems like if the Tigers extend an offer that Bassett will be theirs.

"It would be a huge opportunity that I would not say no to,"said Bassett on the possibility of getting and offer.

ShowMeMizzou.com will follow-up on Dawson Bassett's official visit following it.
