Missouri has gotten an early start on the current recruiting cycle, and the Tigers have extended a scholarship offer to 2014 safety prospect Brandon Simmons 6’1” 180 Mansfield (TX) Timberview. Simmons spoke to ShowMeMizzou.com, and he talked about his Missouri offer, and about his recruitment.
“I think Missouri is a great offer,” said Simmons. “They’re in the SEC, so it’s great football. I really don’t know too much about Missouri, but I watched them play football growing up.”
Simmons currently has “forty offers”, including Arizona, Arizona State, Arkansas, Auburn, Baylor, Boise State, Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas State, Louisiana, LSU, Michigan, Mississippi, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Purdue, Rutgers, SMU, Stanford, Temple, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, UCLA, Vanderbilt, Virginia, and West Virginia, among others, in addition to Missouri.
“I recently started talking to the Head Coach (Gary Pinkel),” said Simmons, who indicated that it is Coach Pinkel who is his primary recruiter, and who informed him of his Missouri offer. “I’m still trying to learn everything about Missouri.”
Simmons reported a personal best of 4.54 seconds in the forty-yard dash, a 36” vertical, a maximum of 265 pounds in the bench press, and he has a personal best of 6 reps at 225 pounds. He also reported a personal best of 43’ in the triple jump.
Simmons is currently “wide open”, and he plans to narrow things down some before this summer, and he said that he may visit Missouri this summer. He’s not sure when he’ll make a final decision.
“Academics are very important to me and my family,” explained Simmons, talking about his criteria for choosing a school. “I’m looking for a home away from home. I just want to be able to fit in, and contribute to the program.”
