With the departure of junior point guard Phil Pressey, Missouri has an opening for another ball handler. The Tigers have extended a scholarship offer to a 2013 PG prospect from the Bronx (NY) in Shane Rector 6’1” 170 South Kent (CT) South Kent School.

ShowMeMizzou.com spoke with Rector, who confirmed that he is traveling to Missouri for an official visit that begins on Friday (4-19-13).

“Missouri is definitely one of the top schools on my list,” explained Rector, who said that he doesn’t have any other visits scheduled at this time. “I haven’t planned any (other visits) yet.”

Rector named Butler, Texas A&M, Minnesota, and Virginia Tech as the other top schools on his list. Then he said of Rutgers, from whom he recently decommitted, that “they’re still on my list”.

Rector said that Missouri has expressed to him that he is their top target to fill the spot. The Tigers have indicated to Rector that there’s an opportunity at Missouri for him to play this year.

“I mean, nothing’s guaranteed,” explained Rector. “But you know, (Missouri) needs somebody to come in and play.”

Rector is a point guard who can score. He has an effective mid-range game, in addition to being able to score around the basket and from the outside. He said that he can defend, too.

“I can definitely guard the (other team’s) point guard,” said Rector. “I play the point guard.”

Rector indicated that if he liked Missouri enough, he could go ahead and commit to the Tigers.
