Earlier this month, the Missouri Tigers extended a scholarship offer to 2014 OT prospect Delroy Baker 6’6” 275 Ocala (FL) West Port. ShowMeMizzou.com spoke with Baker, and he talked about Missouri, and his recruitment.
“I was extremely happy to receive a Missouri offer,” explained Baker. “Everybody was like, “I can’t believe it! An SEC offer!” It was great!”
Baker reports offers from Akron, Indiana, MTSU, Old Dominion, South Alabama, Troy, UCF, UConn, and USF, in addition to Missouri. He said that Florida is showing a lot of interest, and he thinks the Gators may be close to offering.
Baker said that Missouri Assistant Brian Jones came by West Port earlier this month to watch spring practice. And, Baker said that he wants to travel Missouri to check out the Tigers.
“I’m going to try to get up to Missouri sometime this summer,” explained Baker, who intends to take a tour of several of the schools that have offered him, likely in late-June or early-July. “I’m still trying to plan that.”
I asked Baker if he has a list of favorites?
“If I had a top five list, as of right now, I’d have to go with Missouri, Indiana, Old Dominion, MTSU, and USF. That’s if I had a top five. But that’s just based off of personal contact with coaches.”
Baker is looking forward to visiting his schools of interest. He reported a personal best of 5.4 seconds in the forty-yard dash, and a 27” vertical jump. Baker is lean and long-armed, but he has to improve his upper body strength.
I asked Baker if a Florida offer would change things for him?
“Not necessarily,” replied Baker. “I don’t want to go to a school just because of the name. I’ve thought about that. I’m going to weigh my options, and make my decision based on athletics and academics.”
I asked Baker if he has thought about a timeline for a decision?
“I was thinking maybe early November,” replied Baker. “I want to weigh my options carefully.”
Baker explained that the relationships that he’s developed with the various coaching staffs will weigh heavily in his decision.
Update: Baker received an offer from Florida earlier today.
