The past week and a half has been a busy one for the Missouri Tigers football coaching staff. However, with two one day camps and two team camps, the second one starting on Thursday, they have been able to see hundreds of football prospects up close and in person to evaluate.
One such prospect who is at the current camp appears on the verge of picking up a Tiger offer following his performance with them
ShowMeMizzou.com spoke with Parkway (MO) Central 2014 Jonathan Bonner 6'4" 246 4.8 forty-36" vertical after he finished camping with Mizzou on Thursday to get the scoop.
"It was great today," said Bonner.' This afternoon we met our teams and went over offensive and defensive plays. Then we went through one on ones, which went pretty good, and then on to eleven on eleven, and then goal line situations. I got to work both on offense at Tight End, and Defensive End……..I was mostly on defense though……..Then in the evening we had our second practice session and worked on drills and agility. Coach Kul talked about using my hands and chopping harder on rip and swim moves, but he liked what I was doing."
Bonner heard a lot of good things on the day from coaches.
"They talked a lot and the coaching was really good. They said they were really impressed with what I did and my work. Especially Coach Kul. He said there really wasn't anything that he didn't like about what he saw on the day and they like me as a defensive end prospect. He said that an offer is based off what coaches see and their recommendations, and that he would recommend that I get and offer,"said Bonner.
A Missouri offer is something that Bonner was excited about happening.
"It felt great to hear him say that.Missouri would be a pretty big offer. It's an SEC school and it's right down the street. I saw a list of all the defensive linemen that Coach Kul has worked with that are now in the NFL, and that would be an ultimate goal. It's a great school that I plan to come back and check out their engineering school. I like the idea of playing here," he said.
Jonathan has picked up new offers from Michigan State, Purdue, New Mexico and Miami,OH, to go along with his 9 previous offers from schools like Illinois, Indiana and others, and is hearing a lot from Tennessee, who may be close to offering.
"I like the idea of playing in the SEC or the Big 10. Tennessee is talking to me a lot and seems close. I will wait and see what happens with Mizzou and more schools, and then look deeper into it and find the school that is best for me from my offers," said Bonner.
Jonathan Bonner had an outstanding junior season which he was named first team Class 5 All-State after he recorded 64 tackles and 12 sacks on defense, while averaging 21.7 yards per catch and 7 TDs on only 12 catches. He also had several blocked kicks on special teams.
