A Texas outside linebacker from a familiar school on their recruiting trail picked up a Missouri Tiger offer on Friday after an unofficial visit and ShowMeMizzou.com spoke with him about it afterwards.
Arlington (TX) Bowie OLB Rod Winters 6'1"200 4.52- 39" vertical jump had been hearing from the Tigers this spring.
"For about the past two months I have been talking with Coach Steckel. He came down and watched me this spring and invited me up for an unofficial visit that I took this past Thursday and Friday, and on Friday, they offered me ," said Winters.
The speedy linebacker, who said he thought he recorded around 97 tackles as a junior, and is a standout out in track at the triple and high jump with PRs of 46.5 feet and 6-feet, shared his thoughts on getting his first SEC offer.
"I was really surprised and really happy to get the offer from Mizzou. I really liked the campus, the facilities, players, social environment, athletic department and coaches. I got the chance to meet Coach Pinkel and he and all the coaches are all nice and encouraging in every way, and especially about academics, which is very important to me. They also said they like my speed and my footwork. They want me to put on another 25 pounds to get ready for the next level." he said.
Winters was named first team All-District at linebacker in 2012 and has offers currently from New Mexico State, Sam Houston State and some others, while he is hearing from schools such as Iowa, along with Baylor and Louisiana Tech, both of whom he will be camping with coming up.
Roderick spoke about what this Mizzou offer would mean going forward.
"Right now, Missouri is one of the top programs recruiting me and my top offer. I am going to continue talk to the Tiger coaches and Coach Stec some more and wait and see if any more offers come my way this summer after camps and possibly visiting Iowa, and then I could see myself possibly committing sometime by September or mid-season to a school like Missouri after I think things over," he said.
