Jones Excited About Opportunity At Mizzou

Local defensive product Grant Jones from Columbia (MO)Hickman spoke with ShowMeMizzou.com about his upcoming future as Missouri Tiger following him signing next month with the 2013 SEC East Champs.

Columbia (MO) Hickman DE/TE Grant Jones has been committed to the Missouri Tigers since March of 2013. The son of Tigers' running backs coach Brian Jones was the first Mizzou commit for the 2014 class.

ShowMeMizzou.com spoke with him recently with signing day fast approaching to catch up with him on his future heading to Missouri.

"I will be there in June and I am really excited about the opportunity to play for Mizzou!," said Jones. "I became even more excited following my official visit in December. It was a great experience! I was easily able to connect the with players that were hosting and the other recruits who were visiting."

Grant said he picked up some valuable advice from Missouri coaches since his commitment and visit.

"The biggest thing they said to me was probably for us to not come in with the mindset that you are going to red-shirt or else you definitely wind up red-shirting. So, work hard between now and when I arrive."

At 6'3" 220lbs  there has been talk about Jones possibly playing linebacker at Mizzou. I asked him if the Tigers had told him what position he would start out at Missouri?

"The talk right now is defensive end or linebacker," he said. "I haven't played linebacker at the varsity level at all, but my Dad says I have the athleticism to, so I think I am going to see what works best for the team."

Jones was named first team Class 6 All-District after recording 52 tackles and 6 1/2 sacks as a senior.
