“It’s a pretty good class! I feel like we hit our needs at every spot,” explained Coach Henson. “And, I feel like we got quality talent and quality depth at every position where we needed it.”
Coach Henson then went on to talk about early enrollee, OL prospect Michael Fairchild 6’6” 286 Stilwell (KS) Blue Valley West.
“Mike Fairchild, 280 pounds right now, he’s here this spring,” said Coach Henson. “He’s got a real advantage because he’s here this spring. We’ll get a good look at him this spring. He’ll go through all of our summer with us. I’m excited about Mike! To me, the best thing that he brings to the table is he brings a workman’s attitude and he plays the game with great intensity.”
Coach Henson talked about OG prospect Kevin Pendleton 6’5” 311 Lee’s Summit (MO) West . “Kevin Pendleton, I think for a big guy, has really good feet,” said Coach Henson. “He’s really athletic, has really good feet! He’s got to get in here and develop his strength and those things, and get in the weight room. But boy! He’s got really good feet! And, he can really move! So, I’m looking forward to seeing where he can go.”
Coach Henson talked about OG prospect Andy Bauer 6’3” 280 St. Louis (MO) DeSmet.
“I think Andy Bauer, strength-wise and mass-wise, you know, is close to like where Evan (Boehm) was when Evan came into the program as a true freshman,” said Coach Henson. “Andy’s strong! Strength-wise and mass-wise, he’s in that category. Is he there from a movement standpoint and some of those things? You know, that’s what we’ve got to figure out when he gets here. He has good technique, and he’s very driven.”
Coach Henson talked about how Bauer has worked on his body.
“He was up to 320 pounds,” explained Coach Henson, continuing to talk about Bauer. “You know, I told him he needed to lose some weight; that he needed to get some of that bad weight off of him. He’s really done a great job with (toning down) his body.”
Coach Henson talked about OT prospect Sam Bailey 6’4” 265 Lamar (MO).
“Sam Bailey’s got to put on weight,” explained Coach Henson. “He knows that. He’s got to add weight to his frame. But, he’s got a great frame! He’s got great athleticism. He is super athletic! We had him in camp, and for a guy that all they do (at Lamar) is run block, run block, run block, we threw him out there against some really good pass rushers in pass pro, and he never does it (at Lamar), and he got out there and just did it! And boy! It looked really good! We really like Sam, and we feel good about where he’s going to head.”
Coach Henson also talked about OT prospect Paul Adams 6’6” 280 Nashville (TN) Christ Presbyterian Academy.
“Paul Adams is another guy that’s big and long and tall, and has a great frame,” said Coach Henson. “He just needs a year or two of getting in the weight room and adding strength, and mass to his frame. You know, he’s got very good feet and very good athleticism, too. So, I feel very good about those guys”
