On Thursday, Missouri Head Coach Frank Haith extended a scholarship offer to sophomore SG Kevin Punter 6’4” 170 Sedalia (MO) State Fair. Later, Punter and State Fair Head Coach Kevin Thomas spoke with ShowMeMizzou.com about the Missouri offer, and they updated us on Punter’s recruitment.
“The Missouri offer is great!” said Punter. “I’m very interested. I could definitely see myself being a Missouri Tiger next year.”
Punter, who is from the Bronx (NY), is acquainted with current Missouri guard Shane Rector.
Punter currently holds offers from Bradley, DePaul, Duquesne, FIU, Missouri State, St. Bonaventure, and Western Kentucky, among others, in addition to Missouri. Other schools are showing interest, including Auburn, Baylor, Marquette, Mississippi State, Murray State, Ole Miss, SMU, and Wichita State, among others.
Coach Thomas said that after State Fair’s season is over, Punter will visit Missouri.
“Mizzou is definitely going to be a spot that I’m going to visit after the season,” said Punter. “To be honest with you, I really like Missouri. It would definitely be a spot where I could see myself coming in and playing right away.”
Coach Thomas said that Punter is averaging 21 points this season, and that he’s shooting 55% from the field. He said that Punter has a very good mid-range game, to go along with being able to get to the basket, as well as shooting 33% from behind the arc.
“Punter came here, and he’s just gotten better and better,” said Coach Thomas. “He can guard. He’s not a tremendous athlete, but he’s a good athlete. He’s bouncy. And, he’s got a really good mid-range game. He’s very skilled.”
Punter is on track to graduate from State Fair in May.
