Missouri Offer Is Major For Awolope

On Wednesday, the Missouri Tigers extended an offer to Ft. Bend (TX)Marshall offensive tackle Sam Awolope. Following the news of his 17th offer overall, Awolope spoke with ShowMeMizzou.com to share his thoughts on Mizzou.

On Wednesday, Ft. Bend (TX) Marshall 2015 OT prospect Sam Awolope 6'6" 250 received word that the Missouri Tigers were extending and offer to him. Soon after, Awolope spoke to ShowMeMizzou.com about his latest, and 17th offer overall.

"When I found out I got the offer I was completely overwhelmed," said Awolope when asked how he felt about getting the news of a Mizzou offer. "It was hard to not to scream out loud in class I was so happy. Coach Kul said we just watched you film again and we want you to come to Missouri and be a Tiger. He said their Offensive coordinator and offensive line coach really liked what he saw with my athleticism, foot work and how I never give up on plays, even if I miss a block on keep fighting and keep looking for someone to hit."

Awolope said that once word got out about his Missouri offer that Mizzou commit Daniel Imatorbhebhe  reached out to him.

"He DM'ed me and said that I should join him at Mizzou. I thought that was great."

The Tigers have apparently been keep tabs on Awolope for a while now.

"The first time I became aware of Missouri was early in my sophomore year. I was playing defensive line back then, and Coach Kul had come by my school and told my coach that he was very interested in me from what he had seen. I switched to offensive line my junior year, and he continued to follow me. Still, it's a great surprise to have received this offer."

I asked Sam if he was familiar with Missouri and what he knew about the program?

"I know it's a major, major, major offer. It's a great school and football program, and  of course, I definitely plan on visiting there. Hopefully, sometime this summer………….I always watched this video about one of their players, L'Damian Washington, about his life, his family and his time at Missouri. It really helped give me an idea about the Missouri coaches, and how much they take care of their players, and the relationships they have with them. They really seem like they treat their players like they are their own sons based on what I saw," said Awolope.

The athletic offensive tackle seems to have a great idea of not only what he is looking for in a college, but who his is seriously looking at.

"I am a student athlete first. Student comes before the athlete, so academics is the most important thing in the world to me. I want to go to a school that will give me the best chance to get my degree in my major. So I won't be looking at championships, rankings, demographics or any of that first. I will be looking at graduation rates and who will best prepare me in my academic field."

"My top schools are Rice, Nebraska, Oklahoma State and now Missouri," continued Awolope in talking about who he would be taking his closer look at. "I have 17 offers and I take all of them seriously, but I know that those schools are the ones I will focus on to make my decision from right now. My parents and I will talk things over and plan out road trips to take unofficial visits to those four schools to help me be able to make my decision sometimes hopefully before the start of my senior season."

Schools such as TCU. Arizona State, BYU, Oregon State, Houston and Tulsa are among the 17 schools who have offered.

ShowMeMizzou.com will continue to follow Sam Awolope's recruitment by Missouri and keep you updated.
