This time of the year when the coaching carousel impacts recruiting, and Mike Riley’s departure from Oregon State has one of their O-line commits looking around. ShowMeMizzou.com spoke with 2015 OT prospect Zach Lucas 6’5” 290 Katy (TX) Taylor, and he updated us on the current status of his recruitment.
Almost six months ago, ShowMeMizzou.com had reported that Missouri had offered Lucas. Now, the Tigers and Offensive Line Coach A.J. Ricker are showing renewed interest in the big lineman. And with the recent coaching change, that comes at a good time for the Oregon State commit, who has decided to take a little bit of a look around.
“I was fully committed to go (to Oregon State) until all the coaching changes happened,” explained Lucas. “Then once that happened, it kind of tossed everything up in the air, so that’s when I started looking around again.”
“Coach Ricker came to see me at school a couple of weeks ago,” explained Lucas. “Our talks are going pretty well. He said that he likes me a lot. He wants to get me up there, and he also wants to come for a home visit as soon as he possibly can.”
Lucas said that Missouri sees him as an offensive tackle. He identified his interest level in Missouri as high. He said that he is definitely going to visit Missouri in January.
Nearly six months ago, Lucas had told ShowMeMizzou.com that Missouri was one of his top schools, and that playing in the SEC was appealing to him. Not long after that, Missouri hired A.J. Ricker to coach the offensive line. He’s taken over recruiting Lucas from Missouri Defensive Line Coach Craig Kuligowski.
“Coach Ricker is actually from right around here where I am,” said Lucas, speaking of Coach Ricker’s Houston (TX)-area roots.
Lucas said that he is also talking to Fresno State and SMU, in addition to Missouri. But it sounds like Missouri’s the school in which he is interested.
