Big Man Plans Missouri Visit

The Missouri Tigers are in the running for a talented big man, who shares his plans to visit with us.

Recently, spoke with Huntington Prep Head Coach Arkell Bruce, who summarized the current recruiting status, particularly with respect to Missouri, of a few of his players.

Coach Bruce said that Missouri remains in the picture for 6’11” 245-pound power forward Thomas Bryant. Coach Bruce named Indiana, Kentucky, and Syracuse, in addition to Missouri, as the schools that Bryant is currently considering.

“Thomas (Bryant) is still up in the air,” explained Coach Bruce. “He’s still got it between Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, and Syracuse.”

Coach Bruce said that “it’s probably going to be April” when Bryant announces his decision.

“He really likes Missouri,” said Coach Bruce, referring to Bryant. “But he doesn’t have a favorite right now.”

Coach Bruce said that Bryant is done taking visits, but that “he’s not close” to a decision.

Coach Bruce said that 6’10” 285-pound center Levi Cook is planning to take an official visit to Missouri next month.

Cook told that he’s planning to take an official visit to Missouri in March, but that he does not yet have an exact date.

Cook said that he has a 7’2” wing span. Here's how Huntington Prep describes Cook: "Cook is a wide body inside the lane with a very soft touch. He has a terrific understanding of how to utilize his frame to create space and angles to the rim. He has terrific hands to make tough catches and the dexterity to score with both hands around the basket."

He’s averaging 6 points, about 8 rebounds, and about 2 assists per game, and he has nearly a 2:1 assist/turnover ratio. This season, Cook is shooting 67% from the field and 75% from the FT line. Cook said that he has to keep working on his free throws.

He described his game thusly:

“I rebound hard,” said Cook. “I just do whatever needs to be done for us to win.”

Coach Bruce said that Cook is also considering Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech, South Carolina, ETSU, Western Kentucky, and Drexel, in addition to Missouri. He also has offers from Iowa, and Appalachian State.

Cook said that he wants to see the Missouri campus and spend time with “the Missouri coaches to see how they are”. Thus far, most of his communication has been with Missouri Assistant Coach Rob Fulford.

“Missouri is definitely very interested in me,” explained Cook. “And I’m very interested in Missouri. So, we’ll just keep talking to each other.”

Cook indicated that he’ll probably make a decision “sometime after the season”.

Coach Bruce talked about Levi Cook as a player.

“Levi is a skilled big man,” said Coach Bruce. “He plays with his back to the basket. He’s a really good passer. He can shoot it up to 15-18 feet. He’s a big dude! He’s a deceptive athlete. He can move. Of course, he’s got to get in better shape…………………………………………… He’s got really soft hands.”

Coach Bruce also talked about a pair of 2016 Missouri targets from Huntington Prep. He indicated that Missouri is in the picture for Miles Bridges and Curtis Jones.

“Miles and Curtis, I mean, Missouri’s recruiting them,” explained Coach Bruce, speaking of the 6’7” 220-pound junior guard/forward and the 6’4” 170-pound junior point guard. “But they’re just juniors. They’re not in any hurry to make any decision as far as college is concerned.”
