Recently, ShowMeMizzou.com spoke with local Missouri offer, 2016 DE prospect Tre Williams 6’5” 215 Columbia (MO) Rock Bridge, who talked about the Missouri offer, and his interest in Missouri, and he updated us on the current status of his recruitment.
“I was excited about the Missouri offer,” said Williams. “Our basketball season had just ended, and my football coach told me to call Andy Hill. When I called him up, he offered me a scholarship…………………………………. When I first got the offer, it was an unbelievable feeling. I didn’t think the offer was real!”
Williams went on to say that Coach Hill encouraged him to finish up the semester well in the classroom. He said that he “still has some work to do” to become qualified. He said that he’s working on becoming a better student.
“I get tutoring after school every day,” explained Williams.
Williams went on to explain that he just moved to Columbia with his mother from Moberly last summer. At Moberly, he didn’t play much on either the basketball or football team. But as soon as he arrived at Rock Bridge, the coaches started teaching him how to play defensive end. He has proven to be coachable, in addition to his blossoming athleticism. Williams has a very high ceiling athletically. And he seems to understand that he will have to work really hard to approach his ceiling.
Williams hasn’t done any testing or attended any camps. His leaping ability is impressive, as well as his frame.
Williams said that he also holds offers from Kansas, New Mexico, and Tulsa, in addition to Missouri. He’s taken an unofficial visit to Kansas for their Junior Day. He said that Kansas is recruiting him harder than anyone else.
Williams said that his recruitment by Missouri is just getting started.
Williams told ShowMeMizzou.com that before Missouri offered, he had become friends with Missouri defensive end Charles Harris.
“Every time I talk to Charles Harris, he’s either doing homework or working out,” said Williams. “He was even doing homework on his birthday!”
Williams is just beginning as a football player. Prior to his junior year at Rock Bridge, he had been more focused on basketball. Now, he’s decided that football is his sport.
“Now, I really like football,” explained Williams.
On Tuesday, as Missouri began Spring Football, Williams was there, shadowing his friend, Charles Harris and the Missouri defensive linemen. He intently observed the NFL-type individual drills that the Missouri defensive linemen were working on.
“I’ve always liked Mizzou, always,” said Williams. “With the early offer, it shows me that they really think that I can be something at Mizzou. And that’s great!”
Williams said that he’s not in a big hurry to make a decision, but that he’d like to make a decision before his senior season.
