ShowMeMizzou.com spoke with Missouri offer and 2016 TE prospect Cody Mitchell 6’7” 230 Jasper (TX). Mitchell, who told ShowMeMizzou.com that his older brother played with former Missouri Tiger great Sean Weatherspoon in high school, talked about his interest in Missouri, and he updated us on the current status of his recruitment.
“Missouri offered me a full-ride scholarship,” explained Mitchell. “The only thing that’s left right now is me getting up there the first week of June on a visit, and checking it out. I’m sure I’m going to see that it’s the school that I want. And then, whatever happens afterwards, happens.”
Mitchell plays basketball. He's being recruited by Missouri to play tight end. He also plays defensive end and linebacker. He’s been timed at 4.61 seconds in the 40-yard dash, to go along with a 31” vertical jump, and a maximum in the bench press of 315 pounds.
Mitchell identified Missouri Offensive Coordinator Josh Henson as his primary recruiter. He said that Coach Henson came to Jasper earlier this month.
“My mouth dropped when (Coach Henson) told me that they have a full-ride scholarship for me at Mizzou,” said Mitchell. “That pretty much made my life.”
He also said that he sees his primary function on his high school team as providing leadership and just doing whatever he can to help the team win. He said that he’s essentially been a part of the Jasper football team since his older brother and ‘Spoon played there.
“I hung out with the whole team,” explained Mitchell. “They always knew me as Little Mitch.”
Mitchell is planning to camp at Missouri early in June. He’s looking forward to the experience, and the visit.
“I love Mizzou,” explained Mitchell. “It’s a heck of a team, a heck of a ball club. They have great coaches, and it’s a great atmosphere. I want to see the campus with my own eyes.”
Complicated by the increased recent interest from other schools, Mitchell seemed unsure about a time-table for a decision. Yet, he’s certainly considering making the call for Missouri in early June. It's just that he’d like to check out other schools of interest. Still, he feels pretty strongly about Mizzou.
“I’m feeling pretty strongly toward Missouri, for sure,” said Mitchell.
