Newman Close To Adding A Missouri Offer?

Athletic line prospect camping at Mizzou discusses recruitment by Missouri Tigers.

As Missouri readies for camp season, profiles 2016 OT prospect Royce Newman 6’7” 260 Nashville (IL), who is expected to camp with the Tigers the first week of June.

“I think I’ll be there all three days,” explained Newman.

Newman is a multi-sport athlete who has played football, basketball, and baseball at Nashville. He was named to the Illinois Class 3A All-State Basketball Team. He’s receiving recruiting interest in multiple sports.

Newman told that Missouri is recruiting him as an offensive tackle. He’s been speaking with Missouri assistant coaches A.J. Ricker and Cornell Ford.

“The Missouri coaches see me as a Mitch Morse type offensive tackle,” explained Newman. “They say that my body frame is similar to his. They think they can build me into something big.”

Newman reported a personal best of 4.9 seconds in the 40-yard dash, to go along with a bench max of 260 pounds.

Newman recently received an offer from North Carolina State to add to previous offers from Illinois State, SIUC, and Eastern Illinois. In addition to Missouri, he’s also hearing from Northern Illinois.

Newman said that he’d “very strongly consider Missouri” if the Tigers were to offer.

Newman toured the Missouri campus on an unofficial visit for the Spring Game.

“It was really nice,” said Newman, speaking of his Missouri visit. “And, Missouri is really close to home.”

Newman said that “Coach Ford came by my school” this spring. He also said that he understands that Missouri wants to get a good look at him in camp before they offer.
