“I committed to Missouri,” Holmes told ShowMeMizzou.com, “about 20 minutes” after he had spoken with Missouri Head Coach Gary Pinkel.
Holmes, who is “real close” with Missouri starting corner Kenya Dennis, and just began playing football last fall, drove all night to arrive at Mizzou in the wee hours Saturday morning to participate in the final session of the Missouri Team camp.
“Kenya Dennis is like a brother to me,” explained Holmes.
Earlier this spring, Missouri Assistant Coach Ryan Walters had observed Holmes at a track meet, and the Missouri staff had watched his highlight video. So when Holmes hit the field Saturday morning, eyes were upon him. He did not disappoint, and he quickly received a Missouri offer.
Later in the day, about an hour after he left campus, he called the Missouri staff, and later spoke with Coach Pinkel, to verbally commit to the Tigers.
Holmes reported a personal best of 11.00 seconds in the 100 meters, a 4.49-second 40-yard dash, and a 34” standing vertical jump. He told ShowMeMizzou.com that he is “fully qualified” academically, and that he is done with his recruitment.
Holmes said that Dennis has told him all about Missouri, so he didn’t have many questions.
“I’ve got a good picture of what Missouri is like,” explained Holmes.
He said that he’ll probably return to Missouri for another unofficial visit prior to his senior season. He said that he recognizes that Missouri needs to reload at corner.
“I’m their guy,” said Holmes, characterizing his intent regarding the impending turnover at corner for Mizzou.
