Baldwin Breaks Down His Missouri Decision

Latest Missouri Tiger football commitment Trey Baldwin discusses choice of Mizzou.

On Tuesday, 2016 LB prospect Trey Baldwin 6’3” 224 Houston (TX) Cypress Falls concluded his unofficial visit with a commitment to Missouri. Afterwards, he spoke with ShowMeMizzou.com, and he talked about his visit, as well as his decision to become a Missouri Tiger.

On Tuesday morning, Baldwin met with an academic counselor.

“The coaches took me over to a counselor, and we talked about academics,” explained Baldwin, who will enroll at Missouri in January. “I’ll be here early, so I’ll have time to decide on my major.”

Baldwin continued to tour the campus and the facilities.

“After that, I talked with Coach Ricker,” continued Baldwin. “Then, I met with Coach Odom. We went over some film. He said he wanted me to be a Missouri Tiger, and that he would like to coach me.”

Baldwin said that he was impressed with the coaches and the players that he met, including players like Kentrell Brothers, Michael Scherer, and Donavin Newsom. He said that Coach Odom told him that he would probably play at one of the outside LB positions.

“Everything just fit perfectly,” said Baldwin, speaking of Missouri. “It’s a place where I can see myself.”

Baldwin chose Missouri over offers from Fresno State, Illinois, Louisiana Tech, North Texas, Sam Houston, Stephen F. Austin, Southeastern Louisiana, Texas State, and Utah State.

He identified some of the reasons he chose Mizzou.

“Two things were the relationships I feel I have with the Missouri coaches and the welcoming from the players,” explained Baldwin. “They made me feel welcome. It’ll be like a family away from home. I feel like it’ll be a good family.”

Baldwin is a multi-sport athlete who has been timed at 4.69 seconds in the 40-yard dash, to go along with a 33” standing vertical, a 4.18-second 5-10-5 shuttle, and a 265-pound maximum in the bench press.

Baldwin said that he’s done with his recruitment.

“My decision’s final,” said Baldwin. “I’m a Missouri Tiger.”
