Recently, ShowMeMizzou.com spoke with longtime Missouri offer and hard-hitting 2016 safety prospect Deon Edwards 6’1” 195 Minneola (FL) Lake Minneola. Edwards had taken an unofficial visit to Missouri in early June, and he talked about the visit and his interest in the Tigers, and he updated us on the current status of his recruitment.
“Missouri offered me early, about four months ago,” said Edwards, who went on to talk about his unofficial visit to Missouri. “I visited Missouri during their (first) team camp. But I didn’t participate in the camp because of my leg injury.”
Edwards identified Missouri Assistant Coach Brian Jones as his primary recruiter.
“I love Mizzou,” continued Edwards. “Mizzou is one of my top (schools). Coach Ivey. Coach Jones. Coach Pinkel. Those people really inspire me. Mizzou is a great place. The facilities are nice. The coaches. Everything. They just treat you like family. When you come there, you’ll automatically be considered as family. The football program is great! Then, you can get your education there. Everything there is great! It was just top-(notch). Everything there was great!”
Edwards currently holds offers from Arkansas, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Indiana, Louisville, Massachusetts, North Carolina State, South Carolina, South Florida, Toledo, UCF, and Western Kentucky, among others, in addition to Missouri.
Edwards is a big hitter who plays a hybrid nickel back position in his school’s 4-2-5 defense. It sounds like Missouri wants him on the back end. He reported a personal best in the 40-yard dash of 4.67 seconds to go along with a 34” standing vertical, a 4.2-second 5-10-5 shuttle and a bench press maximum of 250 pounds.
Following his visit to Missouri, Edwards visited Arkansas. He’s also visited Florida. The Gators are yet to offer.
Edwards is not in a hurry to make a decision. He would like to take his official visits. He named four schools that he said are likely to receive an official visit, including Arkansas, Missouri, South Carolina, and UCF.
Then, Edwards went on to say that Missouri is one of his top schools.
“Mizzou’s in my top two or three,” explained Edwards. “Mizzou’s in my top two.”
Edwards said that he wants to visit Missouri for a game.
“I want to see a game,” explained Edwards. “I love Mizzou. The fan base is great. The culture’s great. The players, everything’s great about Mizzou.”
