Recently, ShowMeMizzou.com spoke with Missouri offer and 2016 junior college OT prospect Tate Leavitt 6’6” 315 Hutchinson (KS) Community College. Leavitt has released a narrowed list of schools, and he is setting up official visits.
He’s planning to take the first of his 5 official visits to Kentucky on July 17. He’s planning to follow up that visit with successive weekend official visits to Illinois and Oklahoma.
Even before he released his narrowed list, Leavitt told ShowMeMizzou.com that he was going to take an official visit to Mizzou. When Leavitt spoke with ShowMeMizzou.com, he had not yet set a date for his official visit to Missouri.
Leavitt has a good relationship with his primary Missouri recruiter, and potential future Offensive Line Coach, A.J. Ricker. When he took a late-spring unofficial visit to Missouri, he got to spend a lot of time with Offensive Coordinator Josh Henson. And, he said that he also visited with Missouri Head Coach Gary Pinkel. Leavitt told ShowMeMizzou.com that his visit to Missouri raised his view of the Tigers. He said that he thinks he’s a good fit for the Missouri offense. And he said that he was impressed with Coach Ivey and the strength and conditioning program at Missouri.
“The Missouri offense fits my skill set very well,” explained Leavitt. “I’m an athletic, long tackle, who can use my athletic ability to get out in space. I’ve always done really well on stretch, outside zone, whatever you call it.”
“I came away from (my unofficial visit) more interested in Missouri than when I went in,” Leavitt had told ShowMeMizzou.com following his late-spring unofficial visit. “The strength and conditioning staff, when I saw what they did, it got me really excited! That’s important to me.”
Leavitt is also a former high school basketball player who has posted a maximum in the bench press of 405 pounds. Last year, he started at left tackle for Hutch. And this year, he will graduate in December, and he plans to arrive on campus for the 2016 spring semester with three years to play two.
He currently holds offers from Alabama, Arizona State, Auburn, Buffalo, Eastern Michigan, Houston, Illinois, Iowa State, Kansas State, Kentucky, Louisville, Miami, North Carolina State, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, South Carolina, TCU, Texas Tech, and West Virginia, in addition to Missouri. And, he’s also been receiving interest from Arkansas, Florida State, Iowa, Penn State, and others.
Leavitt would like to take his official visits prior to, or early in, the season. He’d like to go ahead a make a decision fairly soon.
“Missouri was one of my best visits,” Leavitt told ShowMeMizzou.com, referring to his late-spring unofficial visit to Missouri. “They were one of my best visits.”
Now comes round two.
