On Thursday, as Missouri opened Fall Camp, 2016 tight end prospect Albert Okwuegbunam 6’5” 223 Springfield (IL) Sacred Heart-Griffin and his family visited the Tigers again. Afterwards, he talked about his most recent Missouri visit, and his interest in Missouri. He also updated us on the current status of his recruitment.
“We arrived at Missouri in the afternoon,” explained Okwuegbunam. “We kind of revisited the facility again, and I talked to Coach Pinkel again, and Coach Henson.”
Okwuegbunam said that he was able to watch practice.
“It was good! I’m glad I got to watch, to see how the coaches coach,” said Okwuegbunam. “I learned how the coaches relate to the players in practice. I kind of learned a little bit more of how they see me in the program.”
Okwuegbunam acknowledged that he’s aware that he’s a high priority for Mizzou.
“I’m very interested in Missouri,” explained the athletic tight end prospect. “I really like their offense, and the way I fit into it.”
Okwuegbunam holds offers from Cincinnati, Indiana, Iowa, Iowa State, Miami (OH), Michigan State, Minnesota, Nevada, Northern Illinois, Ohio, Southern Mississippi, Syracuse, Toledo, Western Kentucky, Western Michigan, and Wyoming, in addition to Missouri.
He’s previously taken an unofficial visit to Missouri, and he’s also visited several other schools, including Iowa, Iowa State, Michigan State, and Minnesota.
Okwuegbunam, who also plays basketball, weighed in at 223 pounds and posted a 4.54-second 40-yard dash at a recent Michigan State camp, to go along with a 9’9” standing broad jump.
Last month, he said that his final decision would probably have to wait until after the season. But it appears that the timetable for his decision may have moved up.
“I want you to know that I might be committing before the season,” said Okwuegbunam. “I’m not sure, but possibly within the next two or three weeks.”
He said that he’s still considering all of his P5 offers, including Indiana, Iowa, Iowa State, Michigan State, Minnesota, and Syracuse, in addition to Missouri.
The Springfield, Illinois native said that he and his parents really like Mizzou.
“I really do like Mizzou,” explained Okwuegbunam. “They’re definitely up there.”
