Hughes averaged 19 points and five rebounds per game for Garfield Heights, which went 23-5 and advanced to the state semifinals. Missouri coach Kim Anderson had three open scholarships to use this spring and was looking to add a shooting guard, combo guard and another post player to his recruiting class that already included Jackson and post players Mitchell Smith and Reed Nikko.
