A 6-foot-3 freshman at Ranger (Texas) College who is originally from Fort Wayne, Ind., Geist will have three years of eligibility remaining with the Tigers. He made his commitment, which he announced via Twitter, while on his official visit to Columbia.
Geist averaged 15.1 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.5 steals per game during his one season at Ranger College. He made 35.3 percent of his 3-point attempts (47-133) and 75.2 percent of his free throws (161-214).
The point guard was recently selected as a Division I second-team All-American by the National Junior College Athletic Association.
Geist help lead Homestead High School to the 2015 Indiana 4A state championship a year ago as a high school senior.
Geist is the second backcourt commitment for Kim Anderson’s squad this week, following Ohio shooting guard Frankie Hughes, who committed last weekend. Geist and Hughes join small forward Willie Jackson and post players Mitchell Smith and Reed Nikko in the Tigers’ five-man recruiting class.
Anderson said a few weeks ago he was looking to add a shooting guard and a point guard to this recruiting class and he has succeeded in doing that with Hughes and now Geist.
The Tigers have one scholarship remaining and will target another post player to add to this group.
