With the conclusion of the NFL Draft every spring comes the early looks at next year’s draft. University of Missouri defensive end Charles Harris is already being mentioned by some media outlets as a potential first-round pick.
Monday was 2017 NFL mock draft day and Harris, a 6-foot-3, 255-pounder who will be a redshirt junior this fall, was mentioned in a couple following his breakout sophomore season.
Harris, who looks like he could be the Tigers’ next defensive lineman to be a first-round pick, was a second-team All-Southeastern Conference selection in 2015 after leading Mizzou with 18.5 tackles for loss, 10 quarterback hurries, seven sacks and two forced fumbles.
Eric Edholm of Yahoo! Sports had the Missouri defensive end at No. 17 of his too-early top 25 list for next spring’s draft.
“Just beginning to scratch the surface, Harris could have declared after a seven-sack redshirt sophomore year and might still have been a top-50 selection this year,” Edholm wrote. “Harris looks like he’s shot out of a cannon, and he stepped up when the Tigers needed him most as the best player on a good Mizzou front. Expect double-digit sacks and dozens of pressures this season.”
Dan Kadar of SB Nation had Harris at No. 30 to the Pittsburgh Steelers in his 2017 mock draft.
“Harris is an athletic edge rusher who will likely kick out to linebacker in the NFL,” Kadar wrote.
