Two walk-on players caught my eye because I could see them making an impact at some point.
The first was defensive back Dawson Downing from Bishop Miege High School in Kansas.
Downing was a standout running back at Bishop Miege, running for 1,904 yards and 42 touchdowns on 203 carries last season and earning Kansas City Star All-Metro first-team honors.
Now the 6-foot, 205-pounder is listed as a defensive back, an area where the Tigers could use some help after losing two starters to graduation since last season.
Kicker Ben Tesson, from Rockwood Summit High School in the St. Louis suburbs, is listed as a freshman but is actually a transfer from Drake where he kicked for two seasons.
As a freshman at Drake in 2013, Tesson made five of his seven field goal attempts, including a 52-yarder, and 15 of 18 extra-point kicks. In 2014, as a sophomore, he made four of his 10 field goal attempts with a long of 43 yards and 16-17 extra-point kicks.
Missouri has a new kicker this season in freshman Tucker McCann, who graduated early from high school to enroll in the spring. McCann is a talented kicker with a strong leg, but if he struggles the Tigers could turn to a more experienced college kicker in Tesson.
