Missouri's Michael Scherer Named to Butkus Award Watch List

Missouri middle linebacker Michael Scherer has been named the Butkus Award watch list.

University of Missouri middle linebacker Michael Scherer has been named to the Butkus Award preseason watch list for the second straight year.

Scherer, a redshirt senior from St. Louis, was second among the Tigers with 93 tackles last season and racked up 114 tackles the previous season.

Scherer had nine tackles for loss in 2015 to go along with three pass breakups, two quarterback hurries and one fumble recovery.

The 6-foot-3, 235-pounder will anchor a talented Tigers defense that returns eight of 11 starters from a year ago.

Defensive end Charles Harris, a second-team All-Southeastern Conference selection last season, has been named to the preseason watch lists for the Chuck Bednarik defensive player of the year award and the Bronko Nagurski Award, which is defensive player of the year award from the Football Writers’ Association of America.
