Louisiana DE Enjoys Trip To Mizzou

Louisiana rising senior defensive end made trip to Missouri for Tigers' 'Night At The Zou' event.

COLUMBIA, Mo. — Louisiana defensive end Chris Turner enjoyed his first trip to the University of Missouri, though the conclusion of the Tigers’ ‘Night at the Zou’ on Saturday wasn’t the end of it.

“It was pretty good,” Turner told “I liked it.”

But the 6-foot-4, 225-pound Class of 2017 prospect was quick to point out there was still more to come.

“I’m not done yet,” Turner said. “I still have a campus tour and all that tomorrow. So far I just like working with the coaches and meeting everybody and checking everything out so far.”

Turner, who ran the 40-yard dash in 4.64 and 4.66 seconds and recorded a 36.7-inch vertical leap during the camp, cited meeting the coaches as one of the highlights of his trip.

Missouri defensive line coach Jackie Shipp has been Turner’s primary recruiter over the past few months. This visit allowed him the chance to meet head coach Barry Odom as well.

“Coach Shipp, I’ve been talking with him for a while,” Turner said. “I really liked him. Coach Odom, it was nice meeting him. It was pretty good with him.”

Turner’s offer from Missouri back in late May was his 16th, including offers from Louisiana Tech and Troy, and he’s taking the recruiting process slowly, hitting the camp circuit this summer and waiting to see what other options develop for him.

Mizzou, which has a strong tradition with defensive ends, is hoping that Turner will be one of the next to come through Columbia.

His first experience on campus was a positive one.

Turner doesn’t live far from LSU and has seen other Southeastern Conference campuses during unofficial visits and camps. How does Mizzou compare?

“It’s up there with them. It’s pretty high up there with them.”
