The University of Missouri football program’s big weekend continued on Sunday when Blue Springs (Mo.) High School rising junior defensive lineman Daniel Parker committed to the Tigers.
Parker, a 6-foot-3, 270-pounder, became the third verbal commitment in two days for Barry Odom’s program and the first for the Class of 2018.
“I had the thought in my mind of verbally committing,” Parker told BlackAndGoldIllustrated.com, “but I wanted to get there Saturday night to see how the coaches would bring me in and how the players would treat me as one of their own and make me feel like I was at home and that’s exactly what they did.”
He called Missouri assistant coach Andy Hill, the primary recruiter for the Kansas City area, with the news. Then he called Odom.
Parker said he’s been a Missouri fan since third grade and was attending games before he was being recruited by the program.
“My freshman year, before I even had offers, I was always wanting to go to Mizzou,” Parker said. “I came up here to a couple games with my friend John and they didn’t even know who I was my freshman year. They weren’t really recruiting me like that my freshman year.”
What was it about the Tigers that made him a fan years ago?
“The D-line,” Parker said. “They really get the crowd pumping. I really loved watching Shane Ray play, also. Watching him play was something else.”
