Quarterback Reyondous Estes and his East St. Louis (Ill.) High School squad survived their toughest test of the season on Saturday.
Estes connected with Jeff Thomas for a 23-yard touchdown pass with 1 second remaining to give the Flyers a 32-28 victory over visiting Glenbard North High School in a Illinois Class 7A second-round playoff game.
Estes completed 11 of 18 passes for 238 yards and two touchdowns and ran 18 times for 131 yards and a touchdown. That’s 369 yards of offense and three scores for the East St. Louis senior quarterback.
Thomas, a Missouri recruiting target, caught eight passes for 210 yards and two touchdowns. The eight receptions and 210 yards are both season highs and the two TDs ties his previous high.
East St. Louis improved to 11-0 on the season.
Defensive back Joshuah Bledsoe and his Dekaney (Houston, Texas) High School squad defeated MacArthur High School (Houston, Texas) 47-8 on Friday night for their second straight win.
Bledsoe returned a punt for a touchdown, scored on a run and also recorded an interception as Dekaney improved to 5-5 on the season.
Whitehaven High School (Memphis, Tenn.) and standout linebacker Aubrey Miller earned a 49-3 win over visiting Lebanon (Tenn.) High School in the opening round of the Tennessee Division I Class 6A playoffs.
Whitehaven improved to 11-0 and is allowing just 8 points per game. The Tigers have allowed just one touchdown and 12 total points in their last four games.
Middle linebacker Jamal Brooks and his Bessemer (Ala.) City High School squad bounced back from a loss last week to win on the road at Chelsea (Ala.) High School 31-23 in an Alabama Class 6A first-round playoff game on Friday night.
Brooks led Bessemer City’s defense with 19 tackles and also rushed for 52 yards on four carries.
Wide receiver Jafar Armstrong and his Bishop Miege (Shawnee Mission, Kan.) High School squad opened the Kansas 4A playoffs with a dominating 64-0 win over visiting Piper (Kansas City, Kan.) on Friday night.
Armstrong had four receptions for 101 yards and two touchdowns.
For the season, Armstrong has now has 41 receptions for 954 yards and 15 touchdowns and has two rushing touchdowns and one kickoff return TD.
Offensive lineman Hyrin White and his DeSoto (Texas) High School squad overcame a halftime deficit to earn a 37-31 win at South Grand Prarie (Texas) High School on Thursday to remain unbeaten.
DeSoto (10-0) gained 462 yards of offense (265 rushing, 197 passing).
Carrollton (Ga.) High School and center Case Cook closed out the regular season with their fifth straight victory, a 45-14 win against visiting Cass (White, Ga.) High School on Friday night.
Carrollton’s offense racked up 385 total yards (199 rushing, 186 passing) as the Trojans improved to 9-1 on the season.
Offensive lineman Larry Borom and his Brother Rice (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) squad had their four-game win streak snapped with a 24-0 loss at Groves High School (Beverly Hills, Mich.) in a Michigan Division 2 district finals playoff game on Friday.
Brother Rice, which gained just 151 yards (112 passing, 39 rushing), concluded its season at 7-4.
Wide receiver Roderick Ford and his Southwest High School (Fort Worth, Texas) squad bounced back from a blowout loss with a 66-0 win over North Side High School (Fort Worth, Texas) on Friday night.
Southwest (6-4) will next play Grapevine (9-1) in the bi-district playoff round.
Tight end Logan Christopherson's Lemont (Ill.) Township High School squad improved to 11-0 with a 42-10 Illinois Class 6A second-round playoff win against visiting Danville (Ill.) High School on Saturday.
Christopherson is out for the season with a shoulder injury.
Ben Davis (Indianapolis, Ind.) High School improved to 8-3 with a 47-40 Indiana Class 6A playoff sectional championship round win against visiting Avon (Ind.) High School on Friday.
Offensive lineman Pompey Coleman is out for the season after suffering a broken leg in the second game.
Wide receiver DaRon Davis and Lee’s Summit (Mo.) North squad finished the season with a 2-8 record.
In eight games, Davis racked up 56 receptions for 703 yards and five touchdowns and also had a kickoff return touchdown.
CLASS OF 2018
Junior defensive lineman Josh Smith and his Landry-Walker High School (New Orleans, La.) squad ran their winning streak to eight straight with a 54-28 win at West Jefferson (Harvey, La.) High School on Friday night.
Landry-Walker (8-2) plays Fontainebleau (5-5) High School (Mandeville, La.) in the Louisiana Class 5A playoffs on Friday.
