What to watch for:
Xavier has won three straight games against Missouri, including a 78-66 win last season in Cincinnati.
Xavier is averaging 85 points per game after opening the season with wins over Lehigh (84-81) and Buffalo (86-53). The Musketeers shot 50.2 percent from the field (58-115) ad 35.7 percent from 3-point range (10-28).
Coach Chris Mack’s Xavier squad starts four guards, but has plenty of size. The shortest member of the starting lineup, Macura, is 6-foot-5. Bluiett, Sumner and Bernand are each listed at 6-6. O’Mara is 6-10.
Bluiett was Xavier’s leading scorer a year ago, averaging 15.1 points per game over 34 games. Sumner was second on the squad at 11 points per.
With his game-high 23 points against Alabama A&M, Hughes tied the Missouri school record for points in a freshman debut. Hughes made nine of 14 field goal attempts and was four of nine from 3-point range in 21 minutes.
Freshman forward Willie Jackson added 11 points and nine rebounds (four offensive) in 20 minutes off the bench in Missouri’s season opener.
The winner of this game plays either Clemson at 12:30 p.m. CT on Friday. The loser will play Davidson at 10:30 a.m. CT on Friday. The other teams in the Tire Invitational field are Oklahoma, Arizona State, Northern Iowa and Tulane.
