Bishop Miege (Shawnee Mission, Kan.) High School and wide receiver Jafar Armstrong captured their third consecutive state championship with a 53-21 win over Buhler (Kan.) High School in the Kansas Class 4A championship game on Saturday.
Armstrong had a monster game with eight catches for 222 yards and three touchdowns — all season highs — to cap off his impressive high school career at Bishop Miege (12-1).
For the season, Armstrong finished with 54 catches for 1,277 yards and 21 touchdowns and has two rushing touchdowns and two kickoff return TDs.
Quarterback Reyondous Estes and his East St. Louis (Ill.) High School teammates finished off their undefeated season with a 26-13 victory against Plainfield North High School in that Illinois Class 7A championship game on Saturday.
Estes completed five of seven passes for 120 yards, with three touchdowns and one interception, and ran for 21 yards on seven carries.
For the season, Estes completed 138 of 244 passes (56.6 percent) for 2,464 yards, with 26 touchdowns and five interceptions, and 533 yards and eight touchdowns.
It was the first state championship for East St. Louis (14-0) since 2008 and the eighth in school history.
Whitehaven High School (Memphis, Tenn.) and standout linebacker Aubrey Miller improved to 14-0 with a 42-19 win against Cordova (Tenn.) High School in the semifinals of the Tennessee Division I Class 6A playoffs on Friday.
Whitehaven advances to face Oakland (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) High School (14-0) in the state championship game on Saturday night. It will mark Whitehaven’s first title game appearance since 2012.
DeSoto gained 611 yards of total offense (342 passing, 269 rushing) in the win, with quarterback Shawn Robinson accounting for 448 yards (342 passing, 106 rushing) and four touchdowns.
The Eagles advance to play Cedar Hill (Texas) High School (11-2) in the state quarterfinals on Saturday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
Carrollton (Ga.) High School and center Case Cook saw their season come to a close with a 34-27 loss to Buford (Ga.) High School in the Georgia AAAAA quarterfinals on Friday night, snapping a seven-game win streak.
Carrollton (11-2) gained 293 total yards of offense (174 passing, 119 rushing).
Ben Davis (Indianapolis, Ind.) High School saw its season come to an end with a 42-22 loss to visiting Center Grove (Greenwood, Ind.) High School in the Indiana Class 6A playoff semi-state championship round on Friday.
Offensive lineman Pompey Coleman is out for the season after suffering a broken leg in the second game. Ben Davis finished the season at 9-4.
Middle linebacker Jamal Brooks and his Bessemer (Ala.) City High School squad saw their season end with a 52-26 loss to Park Crossing (Montgomery, Ala.) High School in an Alabama Class 6A second-round playoff game on Nov. 11.
Bessemer City finished the season at 7-5.
Defensive end Chris Turner and his Hammond (La.) High School squad went 1-9 this season.
Defensive back Joshuah Bledsoe and his Dekaney (Houston, Texas) High School squad saw their season come to an end with a 35-0 loss at Klein Collins High School (Spring, Texas) in the Texas 6A D2 playoffs on Nov. 11.
Dekaney finished 5-6 on the season.
Wide receiver Roderick Ford and his Southwest High School (Fort Worth, Texas) squad saw their season end with a 70-0 5A D2 first-round playoff loss at Grapevine (Texas) High School on Nov. 11.
Southwest finished the season at 6-5.
Tight end Logan Christopherson's Lemont (Ill.) Township High School squad saw their season come to an end with a 27-20 loss to Burbank (Saint Laurence) High School in an Illinois Class 6A quarterfinal game on Nov. 12.
Christopherson suffered a shoulder injury and missed most of the season.
Offensive lineman Larry Borom and his Brother Rice (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) squad had their four-game win streak snapped with a 24-0 loss at Groves High School (Beverly Hills, Mich.) in a Michigan Division 2 district finals playoff game on Friday, Nov. 4.
Brother Rice concluded its season at 7-4.
Wide receiver Da'Ron Davis and Lee’s Summit (Mo.) North squad finished the season with a 2-8 record.
In eight games, Davis racked up 56 receptions for 703 yards and five touchdowns and also had a kickoff return touchdown.
CLASS OF 2018
Junior defensive lineman Josh Smith and his Landry-Walker High School (New Orleans, La.) squad ran their winning streak to 11 straight games with a 61-21 win against Parkway (Bossier City, La.) High School in a Louisiana Class 5A quarterfinal playoff game on Friday.
Smith returned an interception for a touchdown in the victory.
Landry-Walker (11-2) will play Destrehan (La.) High School (12-0) in the semifinals on Friday night.
