Whitehaven High School (Memphis, Tenn.) linebacker Aubrey Miller had a week he’ll never forget.
Miller, who committed to Missouri this summer, was named Tennessee’s Division I Class 6A lineman of the year at the Tennessee Titans Mr. Football awards on Monday in Nashville.
On Saturday night, Miller and his Whitehaven teammates rallied with two late touchdowns to beat Oakland High School (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) 12-9 to win the Tennessee Class 6A title and cap a 15-0 undefeated season.
So was this the best week of Miller’s life?
“This is the best year I’ve ever had in my life,” Miller told Scout.com.
A 6-foot-2, 215-pounder, Miller finished his senior season with 120 tackles, including nine for losses, four interceptions and three fumble recoveries.
Miller, who suffered a hand injury during the title game, said he’ll no transition into basketball season but is planning on taking some official visits before making his college choice official on National Signing Day.
Miller broke down what he liked about those four schools.
Michigan: “Michigan’s still in the race because my coach went there. I talk to the players. It’s a great school. I love the program.”
Missouri: “They showed me so much love. Once a Tiger always a Tiger.”
Memphis: “That’s my hometown. They respect me. My parents are right around the corner.”
Iowa State: “I’m taking there because I didn’t give it a chance.”
Asked about his commitment level to Missouri, Miller said, “Right now, I wouldn’t put it past 100 percent, but it’s never a for-sure deal.”
What is it that he likes about Missouri?
“The coaching staff is really from Memphis,” Miller said. “They understand where I come from. I’ve got players from Memphis that are on that team that I know personally.”
