Mizzou Commit Nathaniel Anderson Discusses Decision

"Missouri's a dream school to me," new commit Nathaniel Anderson said.

Nathaniel Anderson traveled to the University of Missouri for an official visit on Friday without a scholarship offer from the Tigers, but the junior college sophomore defensive end was hopeful it would come.

“I think they just really wanted to see me in person, see my size, see my character, see how I carried myself and see what kind of guy I am and I guess they liked it and decided to offer me,” Anderson told “That’s somewhere I want to be so I committed right away.”

A 6-foot-3, 246-pounder, Anderson pounced on the opportunity like he did quarterbacks and running backs this season. It didn’t take him long to tell the Missouri coaches he wanted to be a Tiger.

“Missouri’s a dream school to me, especially playing on the defensive line,” Anderson said. “The defensive line tradition runs deep with the D-line. I couldn’t stop smiling after I got that offer. I was trying to hold it in.”

Anderson is from Toronto but moved to Alabama for his senior year of high school. Now he’s in his second year at New Mexico Military Institute and hopes to finish up his academic work in time to enroll at Missouri in January. He hasn’t used a redshirt season in college, so he will have three years to play two seasons with the Tigers.

What does Anderson bring to the defense?

“I like to rush the passer,” he said. “I consider myself a speed rusher. I’m not too bad at stopping the run. Most of my highlight tape is chasing down running backs off the weak side. So rushing the passer, speed rushing, is something I enjoy doing a lot.”

Anderson became the Missouri Tigers’ second JUCO defensive line commitment in as many days when he pledged to the Tigers on Sunday morning, following defensive tackle Rashad Brandon. In nine games this season, Anderson was credited with 31 tackles, five tackles and one fumble recovery.
