Zane Tomlin Leaves Team

One of the gems from the 2003 recruiting class has requested to be released from his football scholarship at Missouri. Zane Tomlin, an all-state defensive tackle from San Antonio, will transfer to a Texas college this spring in hopes of playing football closer to home.

The news broke today that Zane Tomlin, the redshirt freshman defensive tackle was leaving the University of Missouri for personal reasons.

By some reports, Tomlin had had difficulty adjusting to freshman life at Missouri, and wanted to move to some campus closer to San Antonio.

Tomlin couldn't be reached for comment, but by any point of view, this is extremely bad news for Gary Pinkel's program because Tomlin was considered a star of the future at a position of need and thin depth.

Tomlin's departure almost assures that incoming recruit George Lane will not be redshirted in the fall and will be expected to contribute quickly at an inside assignment.
