Blue Springs lineman attracting offers

Last year, the state Missouri proudly boasted one of the nation's finest offensive lineman in Brett Gallimore. In 2004, those honors appeared to be headed in the direction of Blue Springs offensive lineman James Stigall.

James Stigall already has three written scholarship offers and a verbal offer from KU.

"I have offers from Missouri, Nebraska, and Northwestern," said Stigall. "I received my Northwestern offer last week when I returned from vacation. Otherwise, the other schools showing a lot of interest are Kansas State, Kansas, Iowa, and Notre Dame."

Stigall returned home this weekend from Lincoln, Nebraska where he made his second unofficial visit there this spring to watch their annual spring game.

"It was fun. There were 61,000 plus people in attendance. The team looked great, and it was nice to seem them be able to play. That city loves football. They are showing a lot of interest in my teammate and good friend, Jaron Baston, and I have a lot of interest in Nebraska."

I asked James to comment on the other schools on his list.

Kansas State:

"I took a visit to one of their junior days, and I really liked it. They have a beautiful campus and a great coach."

"I really do not know a whole lot about them except that Ladell Betts went to school there. I understand they have a great education from the letters I receive, and I know they have a great football program. I also heard they have a great tackle (Robert Gallery) that is suppose to be taken early in the draft."

Notre Dame:

"I'm planning on attending their spring game this coming weekend. Notre Dame sells itself, and I'm just looking forward to the opporunity to check them out."

"They are an improving football team, and were the first school to offer me. I called Coach Mangino and Coach Doeren after they offered, and I have interest in their program."

"It is the home state school, and I have grown up following them. My father is a graduate from there, and my mother attended law school at Missouri. It is a great school, and their football program just keeps getting bigger and better."

Stigall is currently throwing shot put in track where he has recorded a personal best of 52'0.
