Picks of the Week

While Mizzou played valiantly in Austin, our pigskin prognosticator boldly predicted a Tiger victory last week. If 2-3 plays ended up going the other way, MizzouRah would probably be rolling in casino clover right now. However, our swami looks to get back on track in this edition of Picks of the Week.

Okay I really appreciate everyone reading to and responding to these picks when it is quite clear I don't know what I am talking about. I am going through kind of a negative sports vibe right now.

I was quite disappointed that MU couldn't at least drive down to tie Texas at the end of the game. (While I thought the Tigers played a fine game, remember I was expecting a win and a couple critical errors cost MU dearly), I watched my favorite NFL team (KC) fall apart and my favorite MLB team (STL) on the verge of elimination. And I lost a lot of "toothpicks" this weekend.

Negativity sometimes feeds off negativity but I have shaken things off and fully expect to see the Redbirds recover tomorrow and I actually feel good about some of these picks. I probably just don't know any better.

Last week, 4-7 ATS 33-42 on the year against Vegas (ouch) I was 8-3 straight up for a 58-23 mark on the year.

On to this week's games.

Nebraska (+5.5) at Kansas State - It is quite disappointing this game isn't on TV, I really think it will be an entertaining ballgame and both teams put together a solid performance last week. The best thing for MU fans is a KSU win coupled with an MU win, that would allow MU to realistically just have to win one of the Nebraska/KSU games (assuming KSU loses to Tech and Nebraska to OU) in order to wrap up the North. Now KSU has a real shot at Tech but this is the best scenario for MU for now.

This is a tough game to call, I think KSU wins at home but I already got burned once when KSU played their (not so good) second string QU this year, it could happen again so I'll take the points here.

OSU (+3) AT MIZZOU 230 ABC - Here's a game that MU really needs to win to show they are a legit Top 25 team just "playing good teams close" doesn't do it. This is a chance for MU to win its 10th straight home game, Ten in a row! That may not sound like much but I bet I sat in those stands for five years at times and may not have seen ten wins.

OSU appears to be one dimensional and the Tigers have a solid run D, I am VERY encouraged with the improvement on the punt team for MU, that is often overlooked, I don't like the matchup in Lincoln right now but this one should go the Tigers way.

MU 31-21 take the Tigers

Texas (-2) at Texas Tech - 6 PM TBS - I had a great trip to Austin over the weekend, one thing that was irritating was that the UT fans overlooked MU. They kept talking about Texas Tech, you know the team MU beat by 31 last year or A&M who MU also worked over last year (although in fairness this is a very different A&M team), everyone is so worried about "night time in Lubbock", hey it may be a little crazy down there but UT has OU type athletes and this spread is a joke, I am going back on my word here.

KU (+27) at OU -I wouldn't bet this game, I don't see how KU can score but the D is solid and OU hasn't been blowing folks out so much.

Pick KU they lose 28-3

ISU -7.5 at Baylor - Why isn't this game on TV? Okay bad joke, I think Baylor is a bit better, I'd call this a tie but it's not possible anymore!

ISU wins 21-17 but does not cover, pick Baylor

CU (+17) at A&M - I just don't think CU is as bad as most folks think but if a game gets away from them (as OSU did) they don't have the offense to be in the game.

Pick CU they lose 24-13

Other games, Friday night I like Wyoming +4 to beat CSU

Iowa +2 will beat Penn State

Georgia -7 covers over an Arkansas team that is banged up, I hear Jones isn't 100% and that is fatal for the Hogs.

Michigan +4 beats Purdue straight up

Houston +5.5 gets blown out by TCU

And Arkansas State +3 wins in Lafayette Louisiana.

Good luck to your team!
