Mizzou vs. Illinois in alumni game

The greatest names in the history of Illinois and Missouri college basketball will reunite to compete against each other in the Alumni Challenge Rivalry Series to be held on April 1, 2005, at the Savvis Center in St. Louis on the weekend of the NCAA Men's Final Four.

Alumni from the University of Missouri will take on former players from the University of Illinois, providing an exciting new spin on the annual ‘Braggin' Rights' game between the two schools. Former Illinois coach, Lou Henson, will lead the Fighting Illini alumni, while former Tigers coach, Norm Stewart, will lead the Missouri alums.

The Illinois-Missouri Alumni Challenge is part of a tripleheader of basketball which will also feature a St. Louis High School Alumni Challenge and a competitive game between the world famous Harlem Globetrotters and the NABC College All-Stars, a collection of the nation's top college seniors.

"We are proud and excited to reunite the greatest names in Missouri and Illinois college basketball history on the biggest stage in college basketball, the NCAA Final Four," said Ronald Mitchell, Founder and CEO of the AlumniAthlete Network. "We hope that this event will allow the local St. Louis community to share in this great event while at the same time honoring the great players, coaches and programs from the area who represent this great basketball community."

Fans who attend the Alumni Challenge Rivalry Games will see many of the great players that have contributed to this basketball border rivalry. Confirmed participants include Missouri alumni Hall of Famers Derrick Chievous, Doug Smith and Steve Stipanovich. The Illinois team features alumni from their 1989 Final Four team including Kendall Gill, Marcus Liberty and Kenny Battle. In a second Alumni Challenge Game, alumni from St. Louis high school powerhouses, DeSmet and Cardinal Ritter will square off in a High School Challenge of many of metro-St. Louis high school's most memorable players.
