Rock Bridge junior looking at Mizzou

Though he didn't grow up in Columbia, Rock Bridge (Mo.) lineman Dan Shufeldt has formed an affinity for the town he moved to before starting high school. It's a place he wouldn't mind possibly sticking around for another four years.

Shufeldt is a 6-foot-5, 300-pound junior who is likely to play offensive guard in college. He's being recruited by Mizzou, Kansas, Kansas State, Nebraska, Iowa and Tulsa, and has attended two junior days at MU in the past six weeks or so.

"We got to meet with all of the coaches and tour the facility and everything," Shufeldt said. "I'm getting stuff from them every week and I just got invited to the spring game."

Shufeldt does not have any scholarship offers just yet, so he's not prepared to name any leaders. He's been to Iowa a couple times as well and likes it there, but he also grew up in St. Louis surrounded by a family of Nebraska fans.

"Right now I don't really have a plan, I just want to see how things happen. If I find a school that I like, it [a commitment] would probably be sooner rather than later," he said.

Also a wrestler, Shufeldt went 18-8 last season and fell one match short of qualifying for states. He bench presses 340 pounds, has good grades and describes himself and an all-out effort type of lineman.

"I like to get off the ball quick, I like to hit people and I always go to the whistle," he said. "I'm aggressive."

Outside of his spring-game visit to MU and a possible junior day at Tulsa. Shufeldt is unsure of where he'll visit next. He'd like to find out which schools are most serious about him first. We'll have to wait a bit to figure out if MU turns out to be one of those schools…
