Mizzou has Offered High-Flying Texas WR/TE

In its quest to continue stocking up on offensive playmakers, the Missouri football staff has offered an impressive under-the-radar Texas wideout.

Michael Egnew, a 6-foot-5, 200-pound wide receiver-tight end, holds an offer from Mizzou, his coach told InsideMizzou.com.

"It's a written offer. I have it sitting in my desk drawer," said Plainview (Tex.) coach Marty McClintock. "Missouri offered toward the end of May."

Egnew, who is also being recruited by Purdue and Texas Christian, is currently visiting MU. He's a high-ceiling athlete who finished second in the state 4A long jump. He's long-jumped 24 feet, four inches, triple jumped 44-2 and runs a 4.64-second 40-yard dash, his coach said.

While his athletic prowess is unquestionable -- he's also a good basketball player -- it remains to be seen which position he'll play in college.

"Either one. He's got the frame to eventually be a great tight end, but he can play wide receiver" McClintock said. "I'm very high on him ... He can play."

McClintock's numbers last year -- 15 catches for 385 yards and two touchdowns -- aren't overhwleming because his team runs a run-dminated offense that has produced five consecutive 2,000-yard rusher. Nonetheless, though, he earned first-team all-district honors as a junior.

It's unknown what sort of timeframe Egnew has for making a commitment.
