New Name in Mizzou Quarterback Search
The Missouri coaching staff has not had great luck in its search for an heir apparent to quarterback Chase Daniel, missing on it's first three targets – Blaine Gabbert (Nebraska), Braden Hanson (North Carolina) and Tyler Wilson (Tulsa). But now the Tigers may have their sights set on another signal caller with as much potential as any of them.
Destrehan (LA) senior Jordan Jefferson has been hearing from Mizzou and could visit should he receive an offer, Destrehan coach Greg Boyne told InsideMizzou.com.
"They've been recruiting him," Boyne said of Jefferson, a 6-foot-4, 210-pounder with a rifle arm and a 4.63-second 40-yard dash time.
Jefferson holds an offer from Ole Miss and is also being recruited by LSU, Miami, Georgia Tech, Alabama, Louisiana Tech and Tulane, which has offered him as a safety. The wait for offers has more to do with circumstance than talent; Jefferson has only started six games in his career. After throwing for 1,500-plus yards and 20 touchdowns in the first five games last year, he broke his wrist and didn't return until the second game of the playoffs, when he threw for another 300 yards and three scores.
"These schools are recruiting kids who have started 25, 30 games. He only has six starts," Boyne said of Jefferson, who attended camp at Mizzou this past summer.
"I did really well. I was one of the MVPs," he said, adding "They have really nice facilities and a good coaching staff."
"They liked him," Boyne said, "but they didn't offer."
Jefferson has the size and ability to be a major prospect.
"He's a typical pocket quarterback with a rifle for an arm. He sees the field pretty good and does a great job of spreading the ball around and getting everyone touches," Boyne said.
Jefferson would like to major in business management and is looking for a school with quality coaching and a chance to play. Should Mizzou turn up the heat, it seems like the Tigers would have a chance, though they'll have to compete against some traditional Southern powers.
