Chris Harper Watching Mizzou QB Recruiting?

Much of Chris Harper's recruitment has been predicated on his hopes of playing quarterback. The four-star athlete from Wichita has become increasingly interested in Missouri, in part because MU offered him as a QB. Now, with a commitment from junior star Blaine Dalton and renewed interest from senior blue-chipper Blaine Gabbert, we checked in with Harper to see if his interest remains the same.

"They're still in the mix as much as anybody else," said Harper, a 225-pound playmaker with great speed and athleticism. "It's just competition. I'm not scared of competition. I've been around it my whole life."

And that is good news to Missouri fans; Harper is a big-time recruit who will add star power to any class. He's most closely looking at six schools – Mizzou, Illinois, Notre Dame, California, Kansas State and Oregon. He's taken official visits to Notre Dame and Illinois, and will take one to MU, most likely Nov. 10 for the Texas A&M game. He'll take one to Cal, and the fifth will go either to Kansas State or Oregon, the latter of which recently jumped into the picture.

Missouri, Illinois, Kansas State and Oregon have offered him as a quarterback, while Notre Dame sees him as an athlete. He has the skills to be a big-time running back or wide receiver if things don't work out at quarterback. Still, it's a priority for him to at least have a chance to play under center.

"It's big. It's still kind of the same situation as before," he said. "That's what I want."

Harper said he recently received hand-written letters from Mizzou's coaches telling him how he is wanted here, how he would be used and other reasons for him to choose the Tigers. He's intrigued by the possibility of playing in Mizzou's offense and has been paying close attention to Mizzou's big season, including a visit for the Nebraska game.

"Their offense is putting up some crazy numbers," Harper said.
