Mike Anderson Checks Out Gulley

Fayetteville, Arkansas point guard Fred Gulley has been a name high on the Missouri recruiting board for some time now. So it was no surprise that Gulley saw MU coach Mike Anderson in the stands at a tournament In Missouri this winter. The question is, where does Mizzou stand with Gulley?

"Missouri is recruiting me very hard. They're doing their job," said Gulley, an athletic 6-foot-2 guard who has known Anderson since he was a child. "They aren't really pressing [for an early commitment]. They're just letting me go through the recruiting process and they think that they'll be able to get me when it counts."

Kansas and Kentucky have been showing increasing attention recently, though neither has gotten to the point of offering yet. Virginia, which has offered, visited Gulley recently as well. And he took an unofficial visit to Texas A&M, where his sister attends
"Right now I'm just open, just seeing what all of my options are," Gulley said.

The good news so far for Gulley has been that he's increased on his averages of 17.7 points and seven rebounds as sophomore, putting up 19.3 points and nine rebounds a game. The bad news, though, is he's only played three games because of a groin injury. He hopes to be back in time for his team's conference opener on Jan. 4, and is expecting his recruitment to heat up again at that point.

Gulley went to the Mizzou-Arkansas game at Arkansas, which also is recruiting him very hard. Though the Razorbacks are the hometown team, he said he's open to going anywhere, and Missouri seems to have an excellent shot at gaining his commitment some time late next summer…
